Tamkeen For Our Humanity Foundation – Mirror Of A Humanising Society is a Moroccan NGO founded in 2009 that locally and globally grows trust-nurtured long-term relationships with partners across villages, cities, education and other societal systems, culture and youth communities, civil society, academia, governmental and global governance institutions.
We co-facilitate, with our partners their self-facilitated processes of transformation as well as our own. A transformation that emanates from self-realised immanent potential (Tahawol Istimkani). We learn to sustain the essence of trust, and discover in wonder how it takes the different shapes of the contexts and cultures of our partners. Our trust in our humanity and the societal creative expressions of that trust, widen the fields of possibilities, reveal “new possibles” and realise the before unimaginable.
Our Tamkeen experience initiated end of 2007 – before the institutional inception – with our founding members engaging in a phenomenological introspection journey; a research process informed by our co-reflected lived experiences in social, corporate, financial, and governmental worlds, in Morocco and abroad.
Our co-enquiry was led by questions about the persistence of social phenomena in our country, manifesting societal disharmony, human withering and suffering. We realised that our original questions were limiting us with their causality and linear grids, and thus part of the problem. We learnt to question our questions: the words that composed them into being, the explicit and implicit foci of attention they pointed to and the ontological and epistemic stances they claimed.
We recognised that our process of reflection was deficit-shaped and negativity-biased, blinding us to the beauty in us, in our communities and societies. We started seeing with different eyes, to widen our gaze and deeply listen to the expressions of what was flowing from the roots of societal phenomena to the manifested systemic ramifications of society.
The circle of enquiry, co-reflection of our lived experiences, growing a shared understanding widened with our partners’ questions and our guiding question evolved into:
“How can our communities, schools, universities, research systems, science, organisations, societal systems, algorithms, governance models, societies and humanity civilisation at large, become an expression and manifestation of the beauty of our shared humanity?”.
